Melissa started attending births in the hospital in 2000 as a doula.  In September 2003, she began a six-year apprenticeship program to become a NARM licensed midwife. During this traditional route of midwifery education, she attended Level I & II Midwifery Assistant workshops at The Farm in 2001 and 2002 and started "catching babies" in July of 2005.

Melissa lives in mid-town with her three home born kids, Kala 1998, Sierra 2000, and Orin 2002. In her free time, when not cleaning or driving kids around, she enjoys gardening, hiking, cooking, knitting, crafting with the kids, and making herbal concoctions to sell at The Farmers Market, to friends & clients.

Melissa is a member of TN Midwives Association and certified in CPR and NRP.

Martina has been practicing midwifery for over 15 years.  She graduated from a full-time 3-year midwifery program at the University in Mainz (Germany) in 1994 and practiced as a homebirth midwife in Memphis until 2004 attending on average 25 homebirths a year.

Martina and her family relocated back to Germany in 2004, where she graduated from Nursing School in 2007. As a staff hospital midwife, she attended numerous births at a busy birthing unit at the Johannis-Krankenhaus Hospital in Landstuhl, Germany.  Martina also cared for women and babies during the postpartum period in the comfort of their own homes.

Throughout the years, she attended several workshops on Aromatherapy, Homeopathy, Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture.

Martina is the mother of two smart girls, Maya (11) and Lena (9), and wife and best friend to Peter, who has been a charismatic nurse for 12 years now.

Martina is certified in CPR and NRP.

Missy Padgett, Midwife Assistant

mlplenge@aol.com

Missy has been attending births as a doula since 1996 when she attended an ALACE workshop in Birmingham, Alabama. She is very excited to be learning midwifery skills from these two wonderful midwives and to be getting more involved in supporting natural birth choices in the midsouth.

Missy lives in Hernando, Mississippi with her husband, Clark, and four children: Jacob (born at home in 1995), Beckett (born at home in 1997), Adam (born at home in 2002), And XiXi (born in China in 2003, adopted in 2005). She enjoys reading, writing, arts and crafts, travel, and time spent with family and friends. She is working on completing a liberal arts degree in Biology, Sociology, and Psychology at the University of Mississippi and has found the study both stimulating and appropriate for midwifery work as all three of those subjects come to bear on the birth process.

Missy worked as a life guard and swimming instructor from age 16 to 21 and has recently renewed her CPR and NRP certifications.
